A lesson in entry boots

What's a Boot?

Many sump failures are due to the entry fittings or ‘boots’. This could be from improper installation or deterioration over time.

Mainly, the boot’s purpose is to seal the penetrating  pipe to the sump to keep liquid from entering or exiting the sump.

Sump = Containment

We use the words sump and containment interchangeably. Regulations require triennial passing hydrostatic (or pressure/vacuum) test of your containments. These include: Under Dispenser  Containment (UDC), Submersible Turbine Pump containment (STP), spill containers, and transition sumps.

B&K Equipment offers both hydrostatic testing and sump repair to failed containments.

Can they be fixed?

Often, yes. We have acquired the best products we can find from Icon, DPM, and Bravo.

B&K Equipment is extremely successful repairing existing sumps. We also have experience from repairing hundreds of sumps. Furthermore, we learned when to recommend replacing some sumps that shouldn’t be saved.

The Process

After successfully repairing hundreds of sumps in the Chicagoland area, we’ve learned a lot about the process of sump repair entry boot replacement. Explore the process broken down below, and contact us to get your sumps repaired the right way.

REMOVE & PREPARE

Any good installation starts with proper removal and surface preparation. We remove the existing fittings from your sump and clean/prepare the sump wall per manufacturer specifications.

INSTALL

Installing split retrofit entry boots requires expertise, experience, and flexibility. Many of these fittings are installed while the technician is upside down in the sump. Our 2 person teams work together to safely and efficiently complete each sump.

TEST

Finally, we hydrotest each repaired sump upon completion to prove our work. These tests will also be submitted to the OSFM to demonstrate the passing results.
